Henryk Melcer's Artistic Saloon

'Evening with Mieczyslaw Karlowicz' was the first concert in the series. It was to celebrate a 100th anniversary of the composer's tragic death. On 8th February 1909 this young, promising composer died in the avalanche in his beloved Tatra Mountains. Exactly 100 years later, on 8th February 2009, students of vocal classes and their teachers: Katarzyna Wieczorek and Wioletta Kuchta reminded of this composer and his music in a chamber room of State Music School in Kalisz. Szymon Myslakowski, actor of the theatre in Kalisz, interpreted Karłowicz' letters, in the backround there were fascinating photos of Tatra Mountains, and Milena Piszczorowicz accompanied singers on a grand piano.

This evening of songs also opened a 90th anniversary of Henryk Melcer Primary and Secondary State Music School in Kalisz. In November 1916 the patron of the state music school in Kalisz called into being Polish Artistic Club. The club was a kind of interdisciplinary forum which united almost all fields of art. Its members were artists and art lovers. Almost one hundred years later, in November 2008, Multi.Art Association was registered in Kalisz. It gathers young creators: musicians, actors, dancers, film makers, photographers, organizers of different activities and art presentations. First of all, it annually organizes Multi Art Festival - Art Festival of Young Inhabitants of Kalisz.
